Lena Baker Domestic Violence & Women's Health Summit "My Name Is Peaches": The Collide of Self-Worth within Self-Esteem Friday, October 27, 2023, 2:00 pm The Women's Building, 3543 18th Street, San Francisco, CA  The 2023 Summit will consider the life of Nina Simone (February 21, 1933 – April 21, 2003).  As a singer-songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist, Simone's social commentary was not limited to the civil rights movement. Based on the Eurocentric appearance standards imposed on women of color, Simone explored four traditional archetypes in her song "Four Women". The song exposes the reality of the internalized identity of four black women with skin tones ranging from light to dark. Chardine Taylor-Stone has noted that, beyond the politics of beauty, this song also describes the stereotypical roles that many black women have historically been restricted to: the mammy, the tragic mulatto, the sex worker, and the angry black woman. Known for her temper and outbursts of aggression, Simone was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The Lena Baker DV & Women's Health Summit, 2023, will address issues of colorism within identity production and mental health. with a reception to follow. ​

WOCPSN's Annual JazzyJZ discussion is our 5-Point Leadership-Building platform. The JazzyJZ Mentoring ensures young professional women preparation to move into corporate and community leadership platforms. Our discussion will consider the 5-point leadership concerns and opportunities to enhance professional growth. We will also discuss the JazzyJZ International Leadership-Building Conference that will take place in September 2023.

While each generation has its own style of communication, intergenerational networking differences have their challenges as well as advantages. Intergenerational business styles and structures can enhance a business environment or limit shared ideas and insights into the business building. Because JazzyJZ Mentoring Program is designed to provide support for young businesswomen through the wisdom of seasoned professionals, this intergenerational discussion will consider business interpersonal, and intercultural communication skills effectiveness. In honor of Women's History Month, the JazzyJZ will consider how women's communications skills improve gender equity, and what aspects of intergenerational communication support such growth.

The 5th annual JazzyJZ presents a discussion of women in leadership.
